Technology and Innovation
Update the commercial zoning code to allow for music and arts venues, theaters, small production studios, gyms, fitness and yoga studios, restaurants and dining halls, and other desirable uses in any commercial areas of the city, removing bureaucracy, expensive permitting and unnecessary restrictions. This simple change will allow communities to develop and innovate for themselves, stimulating local entrepreneurship throughout the city where many storefronts and buildings have gone dark. Just like the source code of any technology must be updated often to improve the technology, the commercial zoning code must be updated to improve modern city living. Transform the whole city into a dynamic, walkable, diverse, green, art-centered and affordable metropolis while preserving the residential character of residential neighborhoods. Permanently close hundreds of smaller commercial streets to vehicle traffic, allowing for pedestrian-only commercial zones throughout the city where streets and sidewalks can be used for eating, performance, and community engagement.
